Alyson Francisco, Director of the Center for Women in Business and a professor at Salem College is preparing women for success. “My goal is to inspire women and let them know they can do anything they put their mind to and regardless of their gender. If you want to be a veterinarian, be a veterinarian. If you want to go to business school, you can,” said Alyson. The desire to help women succeed stems from a personal situation when a person Alyson cherished told her she couldn’t pursue a career as a veterinarian. “I was told women cannot be vets because it is socially taxing and not socially acceptable. So, I went to business school and that wasn’t considered socially acceptable either. That was the first time I was told I couldn’t do something because of being a female. I was left floundering,” said Alyson. After a successful career in corporate America, she now dedicates her life to ensuring Salem College students are empowered to be the best they can be and ready for the outside world.
